We are looking for experienced Senior Java Developers who want to work on scalable, reliable and high-impact technology while contributing to the growth of a rapidly evolving product.

The Role

As a Senior Java Developer, you will design, develop and maintain robust backend systems that power UrNextDoor. You will work closely with product, frontend and engineering teams to build scalable APIs, services and features used across our platform.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex engineering problems, writing clean code and taking ownership of backend systems from design through deployment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable backend applications using Java.
• Build high-performance RESTful APIs and backend services.
• Develop clean, maintainable and reusable code.
• Design and optimize database structures, queries and data access layers.
• Work with Spring Boot and related Java technologies.
• Analyze application performance and identify bottlenecks.
• Implement secure, reliable and fault-tolerant backend services.
• Integrate third-party APIs and external services when required.
• Write unit and integration tests to maintain code quality.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.
• Troubleshoot production issues and provide effective solutions.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, product managers and other engineering teams.
• Contribute to architecture and technical decisions as the platform scales.
• Mentor junior and mid-level developers when required.

Required Skills

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong proficiency in Java.
• Hands-on experience with Spring Boot, Spring MVC and Spring Framework.
• Strong knowledge of REST APIs and microservices architecture.
• Good understanding of OOP, design patterns and SOLID principles.
• Strong experience with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.
• Good understanding of SQL and database optimization.
• Experience with Git and modern software development practices.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of application security and performance optimization.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Good to Have

• Experience with AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
• Experience with Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of Redis, Kafka or other messaging systems.
• Experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases.
• Experience building highly scalable consumer-facing applications.
• Familiarity with monitoring, logging and observability tools.
• Previous experience working in a startup or fast-growing product environment.
