The accepted-answer mechanic, without the closed-as-off-topic.
Structural claims last checked against Stack Overflow in September 2026
Stack Overflow invented the mechanic we admire most and built the best technical reference on the web with it. We are not competing with that archive. We are competing with what it refuses: anything that is not a narrow, reproducible, technical question, and anyone who wants a community rather than a reference.
Every row is something you can check by opening both products yourself.
The differences that actually change what you can do.
The asker accepts an answer and the thread resolves, exactly as it should. What we do not do is close your question because it invited discussion or because it was about your career.
Stack Overflow closes anything opinion-based, too broad, or off its narrow technical scope. That discipline is why the archive is good and why so many people stopped posting.
Topic communities with members, roles, three privacy modes and their own subdomains. A group of people, not just a pile of correct answers.
Stack Overflow is deliberately not a community. There is no membership and no group identity, because it was built to be a reference and it succeeded at that.
Your accepted answers, your profile and your public ATS-friendly CV are one record, next to job posts you can apply to with that same CV and services you can be booked for.
Stack Overflow reputation stays on Stack Overflow. The job board is gone, so a high score no longer connects to being hired anywhere.
Long-form posts, polls, and multiple-choice questions with a correct answer and hidden statistics, sharing one feed and one tag system with the questions.
Only one format exists there, by design. A poll or a quiz would be closed within minutes.
We would rather tell you than have you find out later.
For a specific, reproducible programming problem, Stack Overflow is still the best resource on the internet and we will not pretend to have an equivalent.
The strictness that frustrates people is also what keeps the signal high. That is a real trade, not a defect.
Decades of tag curation in one domain is something a general platform does not replicate.
Stay there for a narrow, reproducible technical question with one correct answer.
Come here for the question they would close, and for the community and the career record around it.
Same accepted-answer mechanic, inside a community, attached to a CV that works.
We never quote a competitor's price, fee or user numbers, because we cannot verify them and a wrong figure would discredit the rest. Everything above is structural. See what we actually ship.
